Albemarle School Board Chairman Announces Democratic Bid for Senate District 17

Albemarle, Va.(May 4, 2015) – Albemarle School Board Chairman Ned Gallaway announces his candidacy for the Democratic nomination in Virginia’s 17th Senate District.

Dr. Gallaway issued the following statement: “I am running for state senate because it is my belief that investing in the education of our children is our community’s top priority. Virginia needs to deliver a world class education to our children as they will be the leaders and innovators who will drive the progress of our Commonwealth. A world class education is not only necessary for our young citizens but it is also vital for the success of our students leaving community colleges, universities, and the military in transition to careers of choice. We cannot compete in a 21st century economy or attract 21st century jobs to Virginia if we do not have a 21st century work force.”

Senator Creigh Deeds (D-Bath) said, “I have known Ned for a number of years now and have always been impressed with his passion for education and his deep knowledge and understanding of many of the issues facing our school system. He brings a unique perspective to the Senate, between his private sector experience combined with his doctorate in education. He will be a tireless voice for the 17th Senate District, advocating for common sense measures to strengthen education in the Commonwealth.”

Dr. Ned Gallaway is the sales manager at BMW of Charlottesville in Charlottesville. He graduated in 1996 with a BFA in Theatre Arts and Drama from Ohio University. He later completed a doctorate at the Curry School of Education at UVA. He was first elected to the Albemarle School Board in 2011. His wife Julie is a pediatric intensive care unit nurse at UVA. They have three beautiful children.
